FAQs
At first launch NavTruck will run through a Truck dimensions wizard, during this
process you need to add the dimensions
of the vehicle you are driving. Within the NavTruck map data includes any restrictions on the road. NavTruck
will
compare your entered vehicle dimensions against the route to ensure your vehicle is suitable for the road.
NavTruck
will not provide any route which your vehicle is unsuitable for.
This is the unloaded weight as road restrictions are based upon an unloaded weight
of vehicle.
NavTruck will never provide a route which guides you onto a road which is
unsuitable for your vehicle. If you detour
off the provided route onto a road which NavTruck recognises as unsuitable NavTruck will stop providing any
directions
and provides an on screen warning instructing you to find an appropriate exit from the road.
There are several reasons why it is not appropriate to provide instruction when on
an unrestricted road.
- NavTruck knows if a road is unsuitable it
does not know the exact location of the restriction, it is therefore
likely that the actual restriction is nearer than the next available turning, but NavTruck will not know
this
and would therefore provide the driver instruction driving into the danger it is suppose to avoid. This is
unacceptable.
- If the road is not suitable then the
driver will need to make a decision on the best outcome, by stopping the
navigation this is the most appropriate way to stop the driver using the navigation to guide them.
NavTruck is designed not to instruct drivers to perform u-turns as it is very
difficult for a truck to turn around.
NavTruck will try to find an alternative route instead of instructing the driver to turn around. If an
alternative
route that is less than 20 miles is not found, only then will the driver be instructed to perform a u-turn.
NavTruck contains both speed limits for automobiles and for trucks. If NavTruck has
the Truck speed limit for the
road currently being driven this will show as the default, this will show a truck image: If the current road
only
contains the automobile speed limit this is shown as above but without the truck image below the limit.
There are two possible reasons for this:
- Firstly you will need to ensure that the dimensions and load type are correctly set, if these are not
correct
NavTruck does not know to avoid the correct roads.
- Unfortunately NavTruck does not contain 100% of all truck restricted roads, it is therefore possible
that the
road has not been mapped as truck restricted.
NavTruck routes are based upon the truck dimensions and any hazardous materials you
may be carrying and uses these
to eliminate unsuitable roads.
Yes, text to speech is included as standard on the NavTruck Truck product.
North America, Canada and most Western Europe countries have good coverage of
truck restricted roads, but it is not
possible to guarantee 100% coverage of all truck restrictions anywhere.
Yes NavTruck does work with Live Traffic service, please note though that traffic
information is only covered for
major roads it is therefore likely that any traffic incidents reported will advise the driver to leave the
major
road and drive onto minor roads. Minor roads may not be suitable for large trucks.
NavTruck contains many standard POI's along with additional categories specific
for Truck. These include Weigh stations
and Truck specific fuel stations.
Safety camera updates are sent out and provided via the 'News & Updates' button
within the NavTruck app.
No, because safety camera speed restrictions in general are not set to Truck
speeds.
Unfortunately map upgrades are not available for NavTruck.
Your iPhone has a built-in GPS receiver which allows it to pinpoint your location accurately on the map. It
may take more
than five minutes to acquire an accurate GPS position or 'fix'. Your iPhone or iPad 3G will also use your
mobile
Internet connection to help initially determine your location.
Please note that NavTruck will not provide turn-by-turn guidance until you have a full GPS fix.
When you start NavTruck your position will usually be quickly displayed using the iPhone's mobile
Internet connection,
however it may take more than 5 minutes to get a full GPS fix
It may take several minutes to get a full GPS fix. There are a number of factors which can affect an
iPhone's
ability to acquire a full GPS fix:
- Make sure that your iPhone has a clear view of the sky. This will help you get a GPS fix quicker
- Ensure that the iPhone's Location Services are switched-on. On the iPhone, Settings > General > Location
Services.
Make sure that the Locations Services switch is set to 'ON' Also, look for NavTruck in the list of apps
below
and make sure that it's switch is set to 'ON' too
- Use an in-car windscreen mount. Customers report that iPhone GPS reception can be improved by securing
the phone
in-car using a windscreen mount. NavTruck is also compatible with some 3rd party GPS car kits, including
the
TomTom iPhone GPS car kit
- Take your iPhone out of its case. Some customers have reported that that cases can sometimes interfere
with GPS
reception. You may wish to try removing the case when using the iPhone for navigation
- Make sure you have a mobile internet connection. Although NavTruck's maps are stored on the phone, not
downloaded
per trip, the iPhone may need to use the mobile Internet briefly to acquire an initial GPS fix. If you
abroad,
you may need to enable data roaming on your iPhone briefly in order to get a GPS fix. Once you have a GPS
fix
you can then switch-off data roaming.
- If you are still unable to get a GPS fix within 5 minutes, try powering off your iPhone by holding the
power
button down then swiping the red POWER OFF bar to the right. Then switch the phone back on and try again.
- Synchronise your iPhone with iTunes regularly. There is some evidence that this can improve GPS
performance
- If you have tried all of the above, a final option is to completely uninstall NavTruck from your iPhone
and re-install
it through iTunes.
If none of these suggestions help and you are unable to ever acquire a GPS fix there may be a problem with
your phone's hardware,
and we would recommend contacting Apple.
The only way to buy NavTruck is through the App Store (iPhone/iPad) and Google Play
(Android)
NavTruck runs on iPad 3G, but NOT iPad WiFi (WiFi-only iPad models do not include a
GPS receiver)
No, NavTruck is not compatible with iPod touch
NavTruck does work with the TomTom iPhone GPS car kit
NavTruck provides lifetime navigation use for a one-off payment. There are no
recurring charges.
No, NavTruck is an 'on-board' navigation system, so all maps are stored on the
phone. It does not download maps via
the mobile Internet each trip.
Real time traffic alerts are available to purchase for an additional subscription
through in-app purchase from within
the NavTruck App
Yes, these are provided automatically through the UPDATES feature within NavTruck.
Yes, you can adjust how close to a turn you receive a turn instruction in NavTruck
by going into MENU | SETTINGS
| TURN warnings and changing the AT TURN setting (between 3 seconds and 8 seconds).
No, you cannot currently download or import custom Points of Interest into
NavTruck
Currently we are unable to offer map region upgrades for NavTruck.
There are a number of ways in which you can adjust the routing settings to suit
your preferences. You can create
a personal routing profile by selecting MENU | SETTINGS | ROUTING PROFILES | NEW, then name your routing
profile
and select OK. Choose the type of vehicle you will be driving for this routing profile then select > and you
can
then customise whether to avoid or favour specific types of roads and also set the speed that you would
usually
travel at.
Estimated Time of Arrival's are based on a number of factors including the road
speeds, the roads you are driving
and the routing profile you have configured. Estimated Time of Arrival's are an estimate. If you get stuck in
traffic
or are slow moving we cannot foresee what delays may be ahead of you. Estimated Time of Arrival's are updated
from
your current position to your destination based on no other delays.
If your headset fully supports A2DP and the Bluetooth Audio Gateway then we will support this in NavTruck.
When the iPhone is connected to certain car kits, headsets or speakers the accessory may take control over
screen dimming.
Unfortunately at this time there is nothing we can do to stop the screen dimming.
Troubleshooting
Some customers have experienced problems when creating an NavTruck ID during initial setup. To avoid this
problem, please
connect your iPhone to WiFi and try re-entering a username (email address) and password to create the ID.
On the iPhone please go into SETTINGS then scroll to NavTruck and set LICENSE RESET to ON. Now start the
NavTruck app and
you will be asked to re-enter your NavTruck ID.
Please power cycle your iPhone (switch it off completely and then switch back on again) - hold power button
down for 5 seconds,
then slide the red bar across to the right and then power back on. This should resolve the issue.
NavTruck requires at least double the space of the app to extract to the device during the installation
process. The extra
space will be freed once the installation is finished. Please temporarily free some memory so that NavTruck
can
install.
You may be receiving this error message if you previously backed up and are restoring NavTruck to another
iPhone as it contains
licensing information for your previous device, or if your license file has become corrupted. What you will
need
to do is go into SETTINGS | NavTruck on your iPhone and select FULL RESET and then exit the screen, now
re-start
NavTruck and re-activate using your NavTruck ID email address.
NavTruck incorporates maps from our data providers, the acknowledged leaders in maps for Satellite Navigation
Systems. We
do use the most current version of the maps that we can, taking into account the time it takes to test the
maps
and release to market. However you may find that very new road systems are not contained within the data and
can
take upwards of a year before they reach each satellite navigation product.
If you do notice a road, address or postcode that is not in the maps or an error with the information,
you can
report this directly to our mapping provider HERE at
www.here.com
This is currently a limitation from Apple, and it's not possible to access podcasts through applications using
the Apple
SDK as these are not technically treated as songs.
